Last-minute packing

I've developed a morbid fascination with watching this - regularly updated air temperature data, from the Melbourne Uni Earthsci department. I think I was probably awake at 3:14am to enjoy our brief cold snap (28.8ºC), though I would have been upstairs in the hottest part of the house.

I'm still packing things into boxes, ready for Saturday's move. This morning's job is to pack the painting room - it's on the western side of the building, and will be far too hot to work in by this afternoon. Later on I'll retreat back to cooler parts of the house, sealing doors behind me as I go. The weather is murdering my paints at the moment, as the heat is cooking them.

EDIT: Just went upstairs to investigate a loud crash. One shelf apparently had plastic supports, which have melted in the heat. Lots of (unassembled, fortunately) figures all over the floor. Gah!

In other news, my neighbours have started covering the inside of their windows with aluminium foil. Whether that's to keep the heat out, or shield them from mind-control satellites, I can't say.

If anyone can help us load a moving van on Saturday, we'll be starting by 10am (and hopefully out of here well before 12). I'll be dismantling the computer and desk some time tommorrow, but you can reach me on 0421 273 172.

Unloading at the other end will be much simpler, as we're just putting everything into the garage. If anyone feels like following us down to Somerville, I can provide food (BBQ), cold drinks (name your poison) and as much fresh fruit as you can carry... the plums, nectarines and pear trees are ready to break their branches under the weight, so I'll be picking a lot of it over the next week.
