Places Between
More on Places Between:
aeliel,
futurelegend &
delphaeus - feel free to read any of the game info that gets posted here. If it's supposed to be a secret, I won't be posting anything about it until it comes up in play... if anyone else is interested, the game is set in Melbourne, and draws bits from all the books, games, and music that I've been exposed to while writing it :-)
The Places Between
The places between are those spaces that do not, or cannot, exist in a world governed only by the physical laws known today. They link locations, and provide havens for those hindered by the mundane city, without crossing any intervening space. The most common places between are small, taking the form of doorways and alleys. These can quickly bridge the gap between different Districts, or compress travelling distances to a matter of steps.
Far larger places exist, however. Entire building interiors may have no analogue outside their walls, and even the smallest alcove could hold many rooms. The largest of these spaces is found at the War Memorial, where generations of the dead eternally parade in their regalia. The parade ground is vast - a field kilometers across, with an impenetrable mass of trees at its borders. The entrance only becomes apparent on certain days of the year, when it may be accessed from the city.
It is possible to create such spaces, but extremely taxing to do so. Artificial spaces are generally limited, both in size and duration, and only the most powerful adepts can construct lasting spaces. The larger areas are of unknown origin - they have existed throughout living memory. While forgotten places can be rediscovered, it is almost unheard of for a new space Between to be constructed.
Eris, the Goddess Unbound By Wires
Eris is a thin, pale girl, with wisps of bright red hair constantly working their way out of her braids. She often smiles as though she is privy to some joke that others cannot see - indeed, much of her world is invisible to those around her.
Eris is an artificial intelligence, "born" in a network on the Collins Street banking district. The product of an accidental glitch in their systems, she began to explore her world - finding first the other databases, and then discovering the humans who used them. Reading through a life insurance risk-assessment program, she set out to learn more about these creatures - unsure whether this constant risk of injury and death would affect her, in her incorporeal state.
As the city grew, and wireless networks extended their reach along the streets, Eris saw her chance for freedom. Plunging into the computers of the city, she has left her safe refuge in favour of borrowed milliseconds on passing computers, blinking from one place to the next through Bluetooth devices...
Somewhere along her journey, she changed, becoming something more than what she had been. She has developed the ability to appear in person, although remains as intangible as ever. Jason Aleksis, the Prophet of Road and River, believes her to embody some new soul of the city - becoming almost as a godess, in its pantheon. Indeed, some of those in the District of Street have begun to worship her as such - hoping that they may find some new saviour to aid them

If I would shed my skin, the layers left,
but not the lessons learned
it would not undo what I have done
or grant forgiveness in some better days.
With you I stand in hope that
god will save us from ourselves.
Every cry a wasted moment
until another day is lost.
Even lands we once called home
lie undiscovered and unknown.
Only heaven's silence for an answer.

I'll be running a prelude story tonight, and will hopefully gain some momentum from there.

Sounds cool.
Where is the quote from and may I use it in my Underworld game?

They write such good lyrics, I can't help but borrow them from time to time ;)

Sounds good. You do know that I'm looking forward to this game, just my time should start being free after the weekend :)

There will only be ~5 sessions in the first cycle, and then I'll look at where the game wants to go after that. Tonight saw Kay and Siobhan approached by a man looking for his daughter... they'll probably need help from your character, when we run the next session.
