I've been eating a lot lately. I think my appetite got lost a few years ago, but it finally found its way home again... fortunately we have a house full of ingredients, and two occupants who like cooking. Over the weekend I roasted two trays of pumpkin, sweet potato, garlic and herbs, and turned the lot into soup. Meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] aeliel has filled the rest of the kitchen with apple cake and hedgehog slice, so it looks like we're stockpiling for a siege.

Somewhere along the way I slipped out of being more-or-less vegetarian, and started getting cravings for lots of meat - lean, rare meat in particular. I suspect it has something to do with the amount of training I've been doing, and a need for protein. We seem to be eating more kangaroo than anything else these days, as game meat has been consistently better quality than any of the farmed beef and lamb available around here. It also makes sense, I guess. If you want to jump around a lot, eat something known for doing the same...

Today we reached the halfway point in the 36 Fan. It's the longest weapon form I've learned, and much more intricate than the 18 form. The last couple of Tai Chi classes have been held in an aerobics studio, walled with mirrors. Helpful for spotting and correcting mistakes, but dear gods do I have scrawny little legs :)

Oh noez, not the protein myth!
But good to hear you've got your appetite back, it's about time! Mmmmh, soup season...

Myth or not, my tastebuds believe it... :)

Or you could be pregnant...
to steal jaimie's line, 'you're eatting for two and one of you is a carnivore'

Hey, there's no arguing with taste. There *is* arguing with nutrition.
If your tastebuds prefer the taste of jumpy, jumpy meat, that's perfectly understandable.
It's just not the only (or even the most efficient) way to get enough protein for jumping and kicking and rolling around...

Where do you get your kangaroo meat? If it is Vic Market, which stall? I've been wanting to try some cooking of kangaroo at home and we get most of our meat from Footscray which doesn't even stock things like lamb because it doesn't sell well enough.

True... I used to be much better at balancing lots of vegetables, but lately I've slipped back into lots of cereals and root vegies. The grains help, but without lots of legumes and leafy things I doubt I've been getting enough from what I eat.

Overkill seems to be the best solution :) Clearly I should eat more legumes and green leafy things, as well as eating meat. Hell, I'll just try eating everything at once...

We actually just get it from the supermarket - the one on Racecourse Road generally has steak, fillet and marinated roasts, and the steak and fillet are pretty good. The main rule of thumb seems to be not overcooking it - drop it into a very hot pan for a minute or two, turn it, then wrap it in foil and leave it to sit for a couple of minutes.

But... but... the tests came back negative!

Clearly, statistical rigor demands that I keep doing them, just to make sure...

Nice line (and weird mental image) :)

Clearly the solution to your dilemma is to have a great cook-out where we will prepare and consume so much food that no matter what deficiencies we may be facing, they will be stuffed, and stuffed well!

Mmmh, more fooooood...

Hmm... I was thinking of doing something that either involving mincing it (I'm still conducting crazy burger experiments) or cooking the hell out of it. Pressure cooker or 9+ hours in the slow cooker with wine and spices. I think my brother works in that supermarket (is this the Newmarket Safeway?) so I might get him to check it out for me. Sound like I can eat it how I like my beef steak, but I want a cheaper way of experimenting with game cooking.
