GenCon Oz has just been cancelled for 2010.

The organisers of at least one miniatures tournament (Warmachine/Hordes nationals) have put countless hours and a bunch of their own money into getting a series of tournaments ready to run at the convention. I was going to book my flights this weekend - I feel very sorry for anyone who has already booked and paid for flights and accommodation.

GenCon Oz were asking for feedback about their registration system on Twitter and Facebook only yesterday.

Still a bit shocked at the sudden cancellation. It's all happened in the last hour or so, so I'm glad that we hadn't made any concrete plans yet.

Registration seems to be handled by the guys in the US (they use the same rego system at the moment, though they've been looking for local alternatives) - I think they might have to get the GenCon US people to close it down.

The announcement was made to the mailing last week that it was going to be cancelled, and they were about to make the official announcement when Mana Bar stepped in and tried to help.

The main problem was the exhibitor numbers were way down (less than half the required number I believe).

Mana Bar tried to find them more exhibitors and sponsors, but obviously didn't succeed. It's a damn shame.
