[livejournal.com profile] anachrotech is great for finding really cool pictures and links. The most recent post has all sorts of photos from the House on the Rock - no doubt familiar to any fans of American Gods, and now I really want to visit...

Annoyingly, I'll be so close to Spring Green, Wisconsin (I have a week and a half in Chicago, only 190 miles south), but probably unable to visit it - all the sites I've looked at say that a car is pretty much essential, and even other Wisconsin folk say it sorely needs a train line. Short of hitch-hiking my way up north, I'm not sure how I'd reach it.

If I can't make it there, I'll have to work on becoming an eccentric millionaire myself, so that I can commission [livejournal.com profile] geserit to design a vast mansion full of amazing Stuff(tm). I have the eccentric bit down, but the millionaire part needs some work.

Incidentally, here's a thorough (and thoroughly disturbing) rundown on Spring Green. Population and demographic stats. Crime stats. Number of registered sex offenders per head of population. Number of foreign-born residents (all 21 of them). Operating budget of the community library. My god, there's a lot of detail collated on that site...

Edit: And Dictionary.com's word of the day seems strangely appropriate for such a venture.
quixotic \kwik-SOT-ik\, adjective:
1. Caught up in the romance of noble deeds and the pursuit of unreachable goals; foolishly impractical especially in the pursuit of ideals.
