Or, "The House of 1,000 Cupcakes"

I had a great weekend. Actually, the whole week's been pretty good :)

[livejournal.com profile] aeliel and I left Melbourne on Wednesday afternoon, to make an early start on things for the weekend. We both like cooking for people, and figured that we would have a captive audience for at least a few hours... so Thursday became the Day Of Cookery, with about four hundred pastry-things going into the freezer. Blackwood House started to creak under the weight of all the food some time on Friday morning, when we managed to fill two kitchens with the help of some reinforcements.

[livejournal.com profile] umbra_mentis and [livejournal.com profile] miss_rynn came up on Thursday for a few hours, and returned on Friday (along with [livejournal.com profile] fetnas) to help sorting out the various last-minute things that needed doing. While the others filled vases with flowers, I made a chocolate tree for the wedding cake (attaching red blossoms to it at the last minute). Once everything was sorted, we headed out into the rain and wind to drop everything off at Sault - drenching ourselves in the process of keeping the cake dry. We had dinner in Blackwood, and then headed off to spend a quiet night in Daylesford.

Wally drove over to pick us up on Saturday morning, and we returned to find Blackwood House decorated with flowers and ribbons. [livejournal.com profile] aeliel was whisked away to get ready, while I waited for family members to show up - not realising that everyone had gone straight to the church... When the house was still empty at 2pm, [livejournal.com profile] fetnas and I decided to walk up to the church, where we discovered all the missing guests.

I've never seen so many people in the Blackwood church before! Thanks to all those who came - I hope it wasn't too squishy in there, as we ran out of seating well before everyone had arrived. I think we should have used larger people when guesstimating how many would fit on each pew. The service ran smoothly (and quickly!), and it seemed like no time at all before we were exchanging vows and rings, lighting a candle, and leaving the church.

The rest of the afternoon was a bit of a blur, where I tried (unsuccessfully) to talk to everyone at once, ran outside with the photographer whenever it wasn't raining, and then jumped in a car and headed to the reception. On the way over there, [livejournal.com profile] aeliel and I finally got to eat something (thanks to the forward-thinking [livejournal.com profile] umbra_mentis, who had packed us a box of goodies). I wish I'd been able to catch up with a few more people... though I'll try to see people a bit more often over the next few months.

The reception went as well as I could have hoped. Not being a huge fan of ceremony-for-the-sake-of-it, we tried to just have a relaxed evening (and some good food) with a few friends. I finally had a good reason to crack open the bottle of Bushmills I picked up last year, and then I headed back to our little cottage with someone that I'll happily spend the rest of my life with.

Can't ask for much more than that.

[livejournal.com profile] fetnas and [livejournal.com profile] geserit are temporarily back in the country - hopefully they're enjoying a change from London weather.

Tradition demands that we eat lots of dumplings to celebrate this event!

What: Yum Cha
When: This Sunday (aiming for 11am)
Where: Chinatown (will make a booking when I know how many to expect)
Who: Dumpling-loving friends of Stef and Sarah.

We'll probably be at Westlake, now that King Bo looks like something out of the battle for Stalingrad...

RSVP by Friday afternoon, so that I can make a booking...
