May. 13th, 2005 03:28 pmIt's definitely Autumn now - the mornings feel like winter, but the sun still feels warm. Sure, Melbourne's coldest is hardly "cold" compared to many parts of the world, but that's fine by me... I like our version of cold weather. For some reason, I spend more time outside in the cooler months. Much of that time has been spent in parks: firetwirling, practicing my forms, or wandering around with a camera. Sometime soon, I think I'll take my camera for a walk again - some of last year's pictures are on my Pbase site.
Years ago,
virtual_munkee and I firetwirled during winter at the Carlton Gardens. Rain is a problem, but the cool weather makes for a much reduced chance of burning parkland to the ground. It's been about a year since I played with a lit firestaff, and the cravings are back.
I live next to a different park now, and it's not as pleasant after dark - screaming arguments from the housing commission block seem to be a tradition. I still want to be outside, though... my body is rebelling against the office air.
In other news: can anyone recommend a good dentist around North Melbourne? An aching jaw and the feeling of sharp teeth below the gumline suggest that my long-feared wisdom teeth (badly impacted..) have finally started to arrive. I don't feel so wise though... it has been many, many years since I last saw a dentist. Preference given to dentists with a high tolerance for idiots who ignored their last set of x-rays...

Laid to the river
Midsummer, I waved
A āVā of black swans
On with hope to the grave
And through Red September
With skies fire-paved
I begged you appear
Like a thorn for the holy ones

Date: 2005-05-13 06:34 am (UTC)I think I've only had the firesticks out half a dozen times since then, all those years ago. They mainly came out for geo field trips, but there's not much chance of those in the immediate future.

Bione E H & H M

My parents started going there when they lived in North Melbourne 40 years ago and still make the trip from Mulgrave. Dunno if you've seen how odd my teeth are, but they did a good job on making them relatively sane.

Date: 2005-05-16 12:22 am (UTC)I like Autumn9 too. I'd spent an afternoon in the Botannic Gardens with my three-day-old camera, and ducked under the branches of that tree. It framed the scene so well that I pulled out the camera and took a shot... beginners luck, as (unusually, for me...) I didn't need to crop or adjust anything from the original image.

Date: 2005-05-14 05:12 am (UTC)Also, hi. I've sort of stumbled over here from mistresscarlett's. I'm not quite familiar with the etiquette of such things, but would you object to being friended?

Date: 2005-05-16 12:18 am (UTC)When my old dentist looked at the x-rays, and the possibility of a local anaesthetic was raised, he leaned over and said "let's put it this way. If they were my wisdom teeth, I'd rather be under a general when they came out..."
It really doesn't sound promising.
Friend away, though :) Have just added your journal to my friends page.
