A new path?

Well, the 90-second property inspection is over. Much the same as any other... check that the walls are still intact, the ceiling is attached to them, and the floor hasn't got holes in it. Property functioning? Done. Now on with the rest of the day.
I recieved a package in the mail from Deakin :-) If I can jump through their hoops fast enough (bureaucratics ought to be a demonstration sport in the Commonwealth games), find a passport photo, sign lots of forms and get everything posted off this afternoon, I should have a place in the Diploma of Professional Writing for next year. Hurrah! Finally, something that I can plan around next year. Up until the envelope arrived, a hazy grey nothingness had settled across 2006 - so indistinct that I couldn't even see when my contract runs out next month.
Some of that fog is clearing, so I'll have a landmark to follow. As far as work goes, I'm expecting to recieve my letter of appointment exactly four (or two) weeks before the contract ends, backdated to cover the preceding two months. I'd like officially finish after Christmas, as those extra few days of pay will make a difference in the new year. Five years of experience has taught me cynicism beyond mortal ken, though... my desk is mostly packed up and my files are already backed up at home. Soon I'll start leaving each day after a round of "Farewell, have a good night, I may be fired tomorrow" as I walk down the corridor.
Once all the paperwork is sent off, I'll be painting for the rest of the day. Lon has asked a few times about when I'll be ready to start painting for him, and I've been browsing the wonderful Giger galleries at http://www.fred-katrin.de/ for inspiration on a new Hive Fleet. I think I can pay roughly three months' rent from the big pile of models upstairs, once I paint them up for sale. There are two 40k armies that I really want to paint, but have zero interest in actually playing... fortunately, I should be able to find people to buy them once they're done.
