Essentially,
Also, Mum is trying to clear some space in the sheds, down in Somerville. Dad was a mighty hoarder, as was his father before him. As a result there are four sheds (one bigger than my current house) filled with two generations of things that may never be used, though it would be a waste to throw most of them out.
I've just tracked down a bike recycling program run by Steve Bechaz, via a Bicycle Victoria webpage. They operate out of Frankston, Bayswater and Springvale, and will hopefully be able to do something with the eight old bikes hanging up in our shed.
Unfortunately, plunging metal prices have sent the local scrap metal guy out of business - just before he would have picked up three broken lawnmowers (raided for spare parts), a dismantled above-ground swimming pool (rolls of sheet metal), a fridge (old as I am), a washing machine (older), and at least a trailer full of other odds and ends. That pile is mostly metallic though, so there's at least some possibility of recycling it.
If anyone can suggest a good use for the several thousand VHS tapes (mostly 10-15 years old, used to record news, sport and films) that we've had since Grandpa passed away, I would love to hear it...

I have no idea how many of them there are, but they used to fill a decent sized room up to the ceiling.
