Ouch

Well, we've survived Moving Part I. About a dozen boxes of clothes, books, DVDs and kitchen stuff are now safely stashed in Somerville, and they are joined by one couch and two bookshelves. We've also learned a few things: that two people aren't enough, especially when carrying things without a trolley. Also, that paper cuts from corrugated cardboard really hurt.

We've decided that we need professional help for the big items left in the house... extra helpers are very welcome on the 31st, but the heavy things are too much to inflict on volunteers.

* Can anyone recommend a moving company? Very few of them give an indication of cost on their websites, so it's hard to tell which ones are reasonable. Man With A Van are the cheapest we've seen so far.

* Does anyone want a sofa bed? It needs new cushion covers, but is otherwise still in good working order. If nobody here wants it, I'll list it on eBay for $0.99 and see if anyone else can give it a home... we really just want to be rid of it, without having to carry it down the stairs.

We used http://www.gronowremovals.com.au/index.htm and they were the awesome. Picked up everything from the old place at 10 and had everything unloaded by 1ish at the new place. They have web design issues though so their number is 03 95340332.

i found Taxi Trucks to be far more convenient and cheaper. Usually, they are a third of the price, the guy helps you with stuff (you need to be there to help, actually) and you can ride with em (normally, anyways) and meet them to unpack the truck. Thats how I have moved, by myself, with furniture the last couple of times :D
