A pleasant surprise
Mar. 6th, 2004 06:03 pmSitting here, I can feel my body shutting down bit by bit - after dancing last night, I think I'm almost exhausted enough to get a "normal" amount of sleep - albeit at a slightly abnormal time. I need to get a lot of work done for next weekend - three illustrations to render, and lots of painting to do - but right now it's a struggle keeping my eyes open.
Abyss was quieter than normal, last night - while there were many sets that packed the dancefloor to standing-room-only capacity, there were also a few floor-evacuation songs as well. Hours later, I realised that Oblivion3 is on tomorrow night, which would probably account for many of the regulars... but there was a very friendly atmosphere, which is lacking all too often at clubs. People didn't have their "get-away-from-me-you-freak" defences set to maximum, which was a pleasant surprise.
I think I talked to as many people in one night as I normally manage in six months, which was great - and I didn't even have to start most of the conversations.
mistresscarlett had an amazing outfit - and I even got to try on her wings before she left :-) This promptly started a conversation with two guys standing nearby (who thought that wings suited me), which led to me talking to the people behind them... and so on. I saw
bog_mod, and we both got to be surprised at seeing each other ("Didn't expect to see you here...") I even finally spoke to a person I've been dancing next to for years...
aeliel,
delphaeus and I left at about 5am, being thoroughly danced out. I didn't request any songs this time, but they played all my unplayed requests of the last three months, which made my night :-) Even better, some of the best songs came on after most people had given up and dropped dead, opening up precious space in which to move. All in all, a pretty good night. Lots of people were sick, busy, or working though (in some cases, all three...) - for those who couldn't make it, you were missed.
Might be planning an Expedition to the next Psychonaught - I need to drag
miss_rynn out for non-Dance-Dance-Revolution dancing at some stage :P
EDIT: Nooo! Dan kindly reminded me that I'm playing in a tournament that starts at 8am next Saturday... in Ringwood. The Expedition(tm) might have to happen next time (26th) - unless you want to go without me *sniff*
