Planning the metaplans...
Aug. 16th, 2004 11:26 pmLet's see if I can manage to follow a plan, for a change. I'm great at making them, can make sure others follow them, and can embark on them with no problems - but recently, somehow, motivation to finish things slipped away from me. When I find my indecision, I'll nail it back into its coffin, and salt the earth around it. I'm tired of having something eat away at my drive to finish what I started. I'm sure I wasn't always like this...
In case it's relevant to anyone... I'll be out of communication from August 24th 'til probably September 3rd. I fly to Tasmania on the 24th, to stay in accomodation I have yet to find, carrying field gear I have yet to purchase. My last field trip was in the hot, dry terrain of Broken Hill - this time, we're expecting snow in the Tassie highlands. I'm looking forward to the trip, but I have this nagging suspicion that it'll be a little cold... I'll take my camera, and see if I can get some photos while I'm away.
The day I get back to Melbourne, I rush home from the airport and drop off my muddy field gear - and go straight back to the airport again, to fly to Canberra. At least I'll be indoors there... I have one day of labwork (LAM ICP-MS - "Laser Ablation Microprobe, Inductively-Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy" for those who like long acronymns) where I burn holes in my samples with a laser :-) After that, I have to learn how to do the data regressions that will give me some useable results for my project...
There will be game geekery in another post this week, as I frantically try to finish painting for a tournament this weekend. I'm not sure when exactly I'll be painting, though - "work" work is piling up, I need to clear up two weeks of leave while I'm away, and my research project has exploded in a mass of data. I should have a chance, though, if I can remember how to stop sleeping...
Just had a weird moment of deja vu as this song started playing - it's on the soundtrack for One Perfect Day. The opening few bars made shivers run down my spine...
