I've been sifting through my uni email account, having recieved the "Your Account Will Be Terminated" message this afternoon. It's sad - there are many memories attached to that account, and I've been using it constantly since 1998. I'll keep some of the old messages, of course. They trace a path through some of the most difficult bits of my life, and I'm not quite ready to let them slip away just yet. I'm still a little shocked to see just how much I relied on writing to find a voice.

To some extent, these journals replaced the near-constant writing that went back and forth - only now, everyone writes in the knowledge that their thoughts are shared with many other people. Maybe we moved on from those long midnight rambles - grew older, moved past them - I'm not so sure though. I still love writing for specific people though, aiming words for an individual instead of a faceless crowd.

Reading through those old messages, I found this comment...

I've just brought the samples I've been cleaning out of the drying oven. They look pretty cool (nice shiny metal with fractal corrosion pits all across  it), and I've effectively just stripped back all the layers, to reveal the original specimens as they were ten years ago - before the Flinders test started, and their lives became all complicated...

Hey - if only *people* were this easy to get to the heart of. Then again, I haven't actually boiled a person in chromic acid before... but something tells me that there must be easier ways to see behind those masks they wear.

I'm not so sure any more. For some people out there, maybe the acid bath is the only way to go...

so good to see you once again
I thought that you were hiding from me
you thought that I had run away...
chasing a trail of smoke and reason

with the email - go to the account management page in SIS and export the whole file to your Hard drive. Then you can keep it forever!
