Apr. 21st, 2005 10:50 amWanted: One functioning spine, to suit 170cm tall human. Will pay well for quality parts. Required for immediate skeletal replacement.
I can't look to the right, today - my neck is locked in an awkward position, and most of my upper back is sitting at a strange angle. It's been getting worse over the last week, and I think it's time to get the thing replaced. I'm not sleeping very comfortably - this morning I was so tired I made a double-sided sandwich to take to work, and couldn't figure out how to invert it so the bread was on the outside...
I'm heading back to see the family for some of the weekend, and plan to use small-talk conversations to disguise the fact that I'll be sizing them up as possible musculo-skeletal donors at some point. "How's work going? Mind if we stand next to this measuring stick? Nice spine!"
Surgery, stretching, or sore neck notwithstanding,
mistresscarlett has twisted my arm (okay, so I'd already twisted it most of the way before she got involved) and talked me into going to Golgotha on Sunday night. It's at the MegaBar; I haven't been to any of the other Golgotha nights to date, and I feel like going out. Anyone else feel like joining us? You can find more info here.

Date: 2005-04-21 02:40 am (UTC)Physios deal with muscular issues.
Osteopaths look at all these issues and more, I like it because it takes a wholistic approach that neither chiro or physio does. It looks at how everything fits together and works on the theory that if you can make everything work together problems should go away.

its not as hippy as that article makes it sound. Mixture of massage, manipulation and stretchs that work to fix my fucked back, shoulders and neck better than other options i've tried
My guys name is Dr Andrew Atchison - level 1 Druids house, 407-409 Swanston St. Melbourne Osteopathic Clinic. 9663 4460. If you go see him tell him I sent you.
Andrew is wonderful.
If you have private health insurance they have that swipe the card at the desk thing.

Date: 2005-04-21 06:23 am (UTC)I think the holistic view is the only workable way of fixing problems, actually - wish I'd known about these earlier. I spent about five years with bad knees (tendonitis), which affected the way I walked (I limped...) - that led to ankle & hip problems, bad back, etc. The usual response from any medical types was to treat one single symptom, ignoring the rest...

Date: 2005-04-21 06:37 am (UTC)The Osteo I went to was excellent; he could explain everything in terms that made sense to me, and seemed to have been trained in a more scientifically orthodox manner. He had a clear understanding of the biological processes that lead muscle tension in the neck and back to cause headaches etc. (I love it when "alternative medicine" gets bunked rather than debunked.)
I'd recommend an Osteo over a Chiro, but just for getting you back into the right shape a Chiro would do the job. A good one will insist on a spinal x-ray before treating you.

Date: 2005-04-21 01:38 am (UTC)You just have to fix two pesky but significant problems.
A. I have NO ($0) money
B. I have no way to get to melbourne and then umm, back to bendigo.
So if someone wants to cover my entry and teleport/drive me to melb I'll be there!

Date: 2005-04-21 09:26 am (UTC)I have been seeing an osteopath, I had my most recent appointment today, and feels a bit better. The combination of a bit of everything seems useful because if you just go to a chiropractor to get your back aligned it could easily become unaligned again, while the osteopath gives muscle exercises to do and massage type stuff to help the changes stick.
Another option is what my brother had done when he broke his neck. Take some bane from somewhere else (in his case it was legal, his own hip) and have it grafted into your neck so that the bones fuse together to create a super strong spine.
