Journey to the East

I have a new computer. And an office.
The computer's been on order for three months now, but I've been working at this desk since 2000. One person at work has left, and the others are worried about losing his room to another project... so I'm finally moving out of the shared workspace I've been in for five years. It's odd. The new office is also the Room Of Doom though - whenever someone moves out of the project, they come out of that room. Looks like an omen to me.
In other news, I sprained my ankle fairly dramatically just before getting on the train this morning. The "CRACK" sound was loud enough to punch right through the music in my headphones, up at full volume. I bought a new compression bandage after hobbling off the train, and have my foot up on a spare chair for a while. I don't rate my chances at getting down the stairs and off to the shops for lunch... this looks like being a hungry afternoon, as I've eaten everything in hopping range.
I went to Neil Gaiman's talk at the State Library last night, and really enjoyed it. He's a natural storyteller, and gives good (long, thoughtful) answers to audience questions. He also read a few sections of Anansi Boys, which I'll be buying a copy of after I pick up a copy of the Stardust graphic novel.
Now I need to work out how I can move office and set up a PC without putting any weight on one foot. Perhaps a wheelie chair is in order...

Date: 2005-07-19 02:42 am (UTC)I've found that arnica ointment works well to bring out the bruising and speed the healing. Don't forget to ice it as well. And get crutches from a chemist.

As for food...you have a phone? Order in! :)

Date: 2005-07-19 06:56 am (UTC)Almost no swelling, which is a good sign. I've rolled my ankles so many times over the last few years that it can probably bend further than it ought to, before any lasting damage occurs. Unfortunately it sets back any attempt to train the joint to recognise where and when it ought to move.
Decided against shifting office one-footed today, and I just set up the PC instead. Being office-bound meant that I could rest it on a spare chair, with a decent compression bandage around it (I re-wrapped it after my rushed job outside the chemist's).
Perk of the new office: the phone (presumably) can call outside of the site. The current one never has, but it's never been a big enough problem to bother fixing.
Downside of the new office: it has no lightswitches on any of the walls. Must find out the trick to getting some light in there.
It's the first time since starting here that I've been in line-of-sight to a window for most of my day :)
