Balance

Spring has dislodged Winter, breaking her grasp over the city. The warm wind comes again, and once more I realise that I don't weigh enough to avoid being flung about by the northerly gusts. I should start wearing heavier boots again, lest I get blown into the bay.

The weekend was well balanced. Food was eaten in great quantities, fresh food was brought home from the market. I went wandering outside and caught up with [livejournal.com profile] futurelegend (and briefly [livejournal.com profile] kikilon and [livejournal.com profile] grey_enigma), I stayed inside and painted until my fingers went numb. I practised my Tai Chi, climbed on play equipment, and also found time to sit still reading my new book. Balance doesn't imply moderation - I chose everything, and followed all options equally. To date, I have seen no convincing explanation for limiting yourself to any single choice...

UniCon preparations continue apace. New flyers are on their way to SciNut and Mind Games. Canteen supplies rapidly fill our spare room. Registrations keep growing on the website and new games are being written. I'm really happy with the mix of players so far - familiar faces coming over from interstate; new people coming to their first convention and the usual suspects from Melbourne.

VNV Nation play the HiFi Bar on Saturday night. Even if you can't make it to the concert, it'd be great to see you at the afterparty. It's been too long since I saw a decent crowd of friendly faces at a club!

General health and fitness is improving, largely thanks to the weather. I now actually feel like doing things outdoors, and Tai Chi in the park no longer means that I'll find new and interesting leaks in my shoes. I still need to do a lot of work strengthening my ankle, but it has a normal range of movement again. If I can find company for firetwirling this summer, I might actually do something about my matchstick arms as well. With [livejournal.com profile] jilavre, [livejournal.com profile] virtual_munkee and [livejournal.com profile] futurelegend all out of town, I need more people to twirl with. Who are the other firestaff/poi people reading this?

Lessons learned on Saturday: do not gleefully misuse playground equipment in view of small children, especially when they run over wanting to know how to hang from their ankles off the crossbar of the swings. I am now officially a Bad Influence, as the two girls in question were promptly taken home by their mother, berating them loudly in Chinese...

While I decided not to go to VNV Nation due to financial problems at the moment, I'm incredibly tempted to go out clubbing since it's been almost forever since I've been out. I'll see who else I can drag along for it.

Do! Bring others, too. It's been far too long :)

Firesticks

The last time I played with firesticks with you I thwapped myself on the back of the head hard enough to have a goose egg for a week.

Lucky they weren't lit at the time, eh?

I would like to learn how to play without the concussion, if you end up finding some other people to play with.

It's much harder to hit yourself when the things are on fire, though :) I think that it's because you take fewer risks when you have the threat of impending immolation spinning past your ears...

I'll keep you posted if anyone else decides to play.

Depending on time/place, I may consider joining you - I've been meaning to work on my fire-twirling, and possibly start learning some new tricks with my pois. In theory I should probably use the Monash Club of Juggling And Firetwirling for my practice (seeing as I am a member and all...), but I'm at uni for far too long each day as it is...

Have you found any firetwirlers in Bendigo? I know there are some out there and I had often seen them out around town during clubbing evenings (but that was like, years ago now...)

The rate things get organised around here, I'll probably only play with fire a couple of times before the end of the year. After that, you can join in :)

We should take poi and sticks down to the beach one night...

But, its so much fun being a bad influence! Though children do ahve a tendancy to be taken away from watching me when I start climbing on things...

Isn't it just? :)

I still like climbing on things, but my new hobby seems to involve getting to the top and jumping off... there seem to be lots of worried parents in this neighbourhood.

I'm convinced I can fly and no amount of not-being-able-to-fly seems to change my mind. I jump off of things a lot...
