Leading by a length and a half...
Dec. 6th, 2005 09:48 pmI finish up on the 21st, and have six days of work remaining. One afternoon is written off by a farewell lunch with the Highett crew (awwww), and I'll probably need two full days to finish my exit paperwork in the week before Christmas - I need signatures from chemical safety/OHS&E/site manager/etc people on site, but most of them will be off for Christmas. I think all the other days will involve frantic labwork... they aren't likely to get anyone else in the lab for several months, so everything that can be fed through the lab is going in now.
The day after I finish, I'll be going to a Christmas party that seems to have been specifically organised to exclude all the people I work with at Highett. As a general rule they finish work at about 5pm, live a reasonable distance out from the city, and have young kids. The official "Team" christmas event has been set for 3pm on a Thursday, in the middle of the CBD, at a hard-to-find bar. The only people who seem to be going are the crew from Clayton who organised it. Remember, kids, there's no 'Highett' in 'team,' despite the common letters...
Still, it's closer to home than the divisional event. Plus, I'll no longer be employed there so I can get drunk and belligerant :) I've been sharpening my cynicism by scraping it along a chunk of concrete, and it's turned into something of a "hacking" weapon. May the gods help these people if Administration, Management or Human Resources enter the conversation in my hearing.
