"I'll give my blessing," said Wu, "if you'll promise to redeem her, and drag her back into using her talents to fix the wrongs of the world."

Yuan calculated. "Done."

Ching blinked. "I don't agree to that!"

"It's her promise, not yours," said Wu. "Now go away and let me die."

"My legs are broken," Ching pointed out.

"Don't spoil a happy ending with complaints," said Yuan.

"My legs are broken and I have a nagging wife."

"Life is full of sorrow," said Master Wu wisely, and he died.

It's taken almost a year longer than expected, but I finally have a copy of Weapons of the Gods in my hands. I've had a .pdf version for a while now, but I'm one of those old-fashioned types who likes reading tactile books... I can read them away from the computer, and I don't have to scroll up and down to read the columns. It's also much prettier than the screen can ever do justice to - 386 pages of high-resolution colour.

I'll be running a version of A Broken City at Retrocon next year, using the new system - before then, I'll be finishing off a conversion for Kindred of the East. There's something appealing about characters that went to Hell for good reason, and clawed their way back out to find a greater destiny. Adding Demon Chi to the system (even in very small amounts) does some very interesting things, with huge implications for the upper-level powers. Converting "classic" wuxia to a cyberpunk setting will also shake things up just a little.

Time seems to be rapidly running out. Most of January will be spent in Tasmania (Overland track + wandering about in Hobart), with Arcanacon consumed by miniatures games (I'm running Warmachine, and helping with the 120-player 40k monstrosity). Sometime before then I need to paint my entries for the next Reaper painting contest, meet my sister at the airport after her global ramblings, borrow a dehydrator to prepare food for the hike, spend a few days doing some training walks with my pack, finish Tai Chi for the year and go to a bunch of end-of-year functions. Christmas will also happen in there somewhere.

cos you aren't busy enough at Arc...

We are contemplating getting these little Syd miniatures made, then maybe having some painting competitions for best syd. I had this other idea (which I haven't run past the committee yet) about getting some good painters to paint some Syd's as souvineers and then sell them for higher prices than the unpainted models...

just an idea

Sounds interesting :) I've had a lot of practice painting red over the last couple of years...

Do you know where you'd get them cast up? I'm not sure what the turnaround time for sculpting/casting would be. I think Conquest goes through Eureka miniatures, based out of Carnegie.

Weapons of the Gods is finally here! YAY! (and why the fuck hasn't Mind Games called me to let me know, considering I had them put me on the list of people who wanted to know as soon as it came in so they could buy it?)

Now, just need to get a temp job for Christmas so I have money to pay for the Shiny Goodness that is an awesome new RP book....

Unfortunately, Mind Games still don't have copies in stock - they have to deal with a distributor in Sydney (Walrus & Carpenter), who deals with the fulfilment house in the US (Impressions). The game's destiny is strong, but it seems to have a powerful Curse upon it... leading it to be caught in the webs of bureaucracy wherever they lie.

[livejournal.com profile] bishi_wannabe ordered a few copies via the GenCon pre-order, which have just landed in the country. We're trying to convince Mind Games that yes, the game is out (I'll take my copy in tomorrow to show them as proof...) and yes, they should be hassling their distributor to order it in.

More voices in the chorus are always welcome, though :) If every staff member has been bombarded with questions about the game, they have to get the point sooner or later. Now that [livejournal.com profile] harkon is working there, we've also started to attack from within...

The plans of the evil distributor to keep copies away as long as possible must be thwarted.

Hmmm, must check my work schedule now that a temp job has arrived right on schedule (yay!) to see when I can get into Mind Games to hassle them...

That's my favourite story of all the Lores. It's just plain charming.

To clarify, that particular story is. The book as a whole is about wuxia & kung fu, irrespective of the lifestyles of its characters :)

All of the short stories are written by Rebecca Borgstrom, who has a way with words. It's a very nice book.
