Well, I've successfully managed to get myself into the uni, and found my way to the various buildings I'll be based in for the rest of the year. I've even found a computer lab... quite handy when I suddenly have a spare half hour to kill.

Note to self: Burwood station =/= Burwood shops =/= Burwood campus of the uni. Not that I really expected the uni to be right in the middle of everything, but it's even further away than I gave it credit for. Rather than taking 1-2 trains and at least one tram each day, I think I'll settle for a single tram ride instead.

I now have a laptop (picked it up yesterday - yes, times are moving fast), so I can comfortably work anywhere I can find a seat. I've used my Secret Mutant Powers (tm) to find some quiet spots to work in the library. Now I just have to get to the postgrad info session, so that I can find out what I have to do about these subjects. If I can get a PT concession card sorted, I might come back in on Friday to start stocking up on books and course guides.

Yes, life is all a bit bland at the moment. I'm finishing my current painting commission job (Khadorans for Lon) tomorrow, and trying to clear the slate for the start of classes next week. No idea what the workload will end up being like, but I'm preparing to dig in just in case.

That's bizarre - it used to be Burwood up to Summerhill Rd, just to the west of the station there. I'm guessing that "Glen Iris" adds $50K to your house price *makes face*

Ahh - see I've only lived on this side of the city for a couple of years - so I always found it funny that Burwood station wasn't in Burwood. I guess this explains it.

Just as something useful for [livejournal.com profile] morsla, if you are going to catch the tram, might I suggest you take the train to Hawthorn first, and then catch the tram from just outside Hawthorn station. That way you avoid tramming along Bridge Rd, which is very often the slowest part of that tram trip.

Half the Burwood shops and all the houses north of of Toorak Rd and west of Warrigal Rd were changed to being Camberwell a few years ago. Prices jumped up as soon as the plan to change the name was announced.

I used to live basically accross the road from Deakin and I always used to catch the train from either Holmsglen or Surrey Hills as they are both in Zone 1. Either that or catch a tram to Camberwell and then get a train from there. Never bothered going to Hawthorn because not as many trains stop there and from Camberwell to Hawthorn via tram takes a good 10-15mins compared to the 5 min walk up Burke Rd. Another option may be to catch the 70 tram which is completely in Zone 1 and walk from the end of the line. There a park along the western edge of Deakin which you can walk through to make it little shorter.

Oh and btw when I moved to Melbourne 9 years ago Burwood station wasn't in Burwood... so it must have been quite a while ago that it changed.
