Where did I put that brain?
Dec. 15th, 2003 02:35 pmPhew. Well, the weekend has wrapped up, and last I checked, I still have a pulse. Bonus.
Player numbers were down from rego numbers, but "down" meant that we had 78 of them to organise.... plus various visitors during the day. I think it all worked out okay - no major dramas during the day, and the countless minor ones (being asked to find parking for 78 players, while I was trying to coordinate setup; some players refusing to acknowledge finishing times; etc) were all tackled one by one.
One thing I noticed, that I'll remember for the future - politeness doesn't always work. Lack of politeness also sometimes doesn't get the message through. Open threats seem to work fine... after telling the players that I'd dock ten points from every person in the team, for every five minutes the final round paperwork was late, meant that all 78 sets of results came in exactly on time...
Thanks to everyone who helped, though - without
jilavre,
delphaeus,
harkon, Kane, Nicolai, Laura, Amanda, Mikee, Yasmin, Rick, John, Dean, and Adam (plus all the help from the players) it all would have fallen in a screaming heap many times over.
In a rare flash of common sense, I decided to listen to my weary body when it said "try to get up for work in five minutes, and I swear I will stop moving permanently" - so I have spent half of the day sleeping, and will spend the next half doing all the things that I can't do while at work, like going to banks and post offices, and other such mundane things...
People started asking about results on the net about six hours after the tourney finished - I won't be doing anything of the sort for a few more days, though. Right now, I'm spending a day being me - and if anyone has a problem with that, I'm more than happy to meet them out in the carpark to "discuss" matters ;)
