Retail therapy and late-night bike rides
May. 15th, 2004 12:52 pmYesterday, most things considered, was a prettty good way to end a week. My computer has started to behave itself again, although there was obviously something wrong with it - so it needs to go back to the shop this afternoon. As if I didn't have enough complex electronic gadgetry, I finally bought a digital camera, too.
I'm worried by how short the sales spiel ended up. I pointed at a camera, and mentioned that I'd used the previous model. The guy in the shop described the camera as "beaut!" and the diffference in the upgrade as "bigger screen" *thumbs up gesture*, and when I asked him about their card reader, it was "not shit - pretty decent, actually." A big contrast from the in-depth talk I'd just seen him give to an American guy looking to use his duty-free shopping.
I love Australian sales staff :) If I ever sell expensive electronic hardware, I'll smile and say that it's not shit...
I went for a brief jaunt to Psychonaut, too - although by the time I rode out there, it was about 1am. Oops... lost track of time at home. Very quiet, when I arrived - I think a lot of people were at the Angel Theory show @ Cabaret Nocturne. The dancefloor picked up at a little after 2, and I got my dancing fix after Dan played a set with Aphex Twin in it ;) In a rare moment of uncommon sense I decided not to stay out until 6:30. Ended up wandering back through North Melbourne with
mistresscarlett, talked (and patted Cedric the burglar-eating cat) for a while, and then I rode home for my earliest night-out in recent memory (got back in the door just before 4am).
Once I got over the initial chill in the air, it was a great night to be riding. I followed little laneways through North Melbourne and Carlton, rode through parks, and made it back home just as my legs started to get tired. I think I might ride out to clubs more often...
