Wow. At half past five this evening, I was just about done for - I'd been picking out motes of diamond under a microscope for hours, and missed lunch while I got things ready for mailing to Johannesburg. I cooked a high-speed stir-fry, gulped it down, and dragged myself off to training; not entirely convinced that I'd make it through the class.
It was a great class, though - a little different from normal, but with the circle walking and stance exercises from the regular schedule. I had to spontaneously learn two weeks' worth of missed movements in the forms, and added a new section of the Praying Mantis "short hammer fist" form. I've loved all the different mantis forms I've learned so far (something about having long, spindly arms, no doubt) but this one seems to flow really well. It has sections I recognise from other Liu He mantis forms, and the fluid continuity of Tai Chi. Hard to describe, but it seems to "work" somehow.
I talked to a few more of the regulars from the Richmond class when we went out for dinner afterwards. As I'd already eaten, I thought I'd just go along for the company, but was talked into ordering a meal. Then they started bringing out complimentary soup... and more soup... and more soup... apparently the after-class meal is a regular feature in the restaurant, and once they see martial arts T-shirts they triple the size of the orders in case we eat their furniture. I don't think I need to eat again for minutes...
Master Liu tried to work out who had eaten the most in China last year, and I had to grin when the other witnesses pointed fingers at me. tt's not my fault - I was brought up believing that plates should be emptied, and wasted food was a Bad Thing. Finishing off a dozen or more dishes might be tricky under normal conditions, but training seven or eight hours in a day is anything but normal.
*sighs* I want to go back. There's an "intensive" training camp coming up, training 5-6 times a day for four days out at Marysville (away from the city, so there's no excuse not to train...) but I'll be at a course in Canberra over that week. Maybe I just want to go somewhere that's far away from Uni...
