Why is the world moving so slowly?

The world is full of slowness today. I've been running laps around people in the library, and appearing on three floors of the building in rapid enough succession to make people wonder just how many of me there are. Sure, it's a public holiday for some people, but looking around I don't think that many people woke up when they got out of bed this morning.
Me, I sidestepped the problem by not getting into bed in the first place. If there's a sleep-borne virus circulating, I think I'm safe.
The Introduction is crap, and needs more than a rewording - it's crying out for an exorcist, as the broken paragraphs spin round in circles on the page. I think I can salvage things by burning all copies of it, and starting from scratch. It's printed on an inkjet, so Holy Water may help as well...
I would be plotting Rare Earth Element traces in my sleep, except I'm just plotting them instead of sleep. I don't have to worry about being far below the word count any more, as I've discovered a whole world of bizarre complications hidden in the final "experimental" sections. Plenty to write about, once I figure out what it all means.
The Bibliography grows as fast as I can feed it. Soon, I shall take up residence in the copy room, cackling "One hundred ninety two references! A-a-a-aahhh! One hundred ninety three references! A-a-a-a-aaahhh! I laarve to count..."
I unravelled isotope signatures over lunch, while taking a break to read some interesting stuff on astrobiology. Yes, I am a geek, but I'll have to be a multitasking geek to achieve my goal of Understanding All The Interesting Stuff...
For those who don't read
