Phew! After a four-night crash course in the new software (I crashed into it, and eventually crashed right through) the first issue of Insurgent is finished. It's a 15-page, 1.4MB PDF available from the Downloads page at http://www.wargamerau.com - have a look, and tell me what you think :)

Note that you'll need to be logged in to download files. Registration is free, and only takes a moment - a larger member base also helps us to attract sponsors to the site, which Stan currently pays for out of his own pocket. If you're at all interested in gaming, painting, or wacky electronics projects, I think you'll like this issue.

The main focus of the 'zine is Warhammer 40k, but we seem to have a horde of model-building projects this time around. Steve has wired up fibre-optics, LEDs and electroluminescent wire to the eyes and weapons of a whole army of 28mm Necron models... Stu has built a spaceport terrain piece out of an old VCR and a flashing circuit for the lights. In less-technical matters, I convert some fantasy Ogres into a sci-fi equivalent. Anton also writes an article about preparing for a tournament, aimed at people new to the scene.

Also: does anyone know of a reasonably-priced printing place? I'd like to print out a colour "Store Copy" for the noticeboard in each GW store, but I'll be doing it out of my own pocket. Eight copies runs to 120 colour pages, which is way out of my price range at the local printing centre.

That's a very cool 'zine, though I've got to say the modelling projects are intimidatingly hardcore!

Yeah, Steve and Stu are both completely nuts :) Luckily, both articles are full of pictures to show just how mad they both are. Both of these were originally serialised on the forums, so they're an example of the sort of thing seen on the site.

I'm hoping to use the 'zine to help promote the website - store copies in GW and Mind Games should spread the word amongst the people I don't see at cons and tournaments. Hopefully the shiny (and in some cases, luminescent) pictures will bring in a few more people...
