The Awesome Foundation: Forwarding the interest of Awesome in the universe, $1,000 at a time.
The idea is simple. Need funding for a project? Is the project awesome? Then the local chapter of the Awesome Foundation might fund it: they give out $1000 grants each month, with no strings attached.
There are chapters in Boston, London, New York City, Ottawa, Providence and San Francisco. Some of the #socialmelb people are looking at getting a local chapter together for Melbourne. At a minimum, it needs ten people who are prepared to donate money and a little bit of time, and a supporting group of other people who can spare more time, but don't contribute cash.

I don't have a whole lot of time (and even less money), but I'm considering how I can rearrange my workload (and probably drop some responsibilities) in order to get involved. I can certainly wrangle people, logistics and communications, and I can organise events. And increasing the amount of Awesome in the universe is something I highly approve of :)

Being a Trustee means chipping in money, helping to review and decide on grant applications, and usually being available to meet once a month. Being a Dean of Awesome means basically the same thing, except instead of money, Deans contribute more time to help with communications, logistics, trustee wrangling, event planning and any other stuff that goes into running a chapter
