Technical question for you...

- The problem I've had accessing the any page on livejournal.com got worse, as now I can't load a single page. It's not a browser problem (same story with IE, Firefox, etc). It's to do with a snarky firewall (I have the Norton Internet Security stuff running at the moment).
- Short of disabling the security stuff all together, I haven't been able to alter any settings that allow me to see LJ pages.

If anyone has any suggestions for fixing a recalcitrant Norton suite, please speak up.
Failing that, if anyone can talk me into uninstalling the b@stard, and picking up Zone Alarm or something similar, please speak up too...

*gets on her soap box*

I don't run a firewall, I've got AVG Anti-Virus, which so far, has protected me fine (3rd year running, not a single virus attack).
LJ is running smoothly for me, minor hiccoughs excluded.

Do you have trouble with any other site?
Does your firewall let you set bypasses (i.e. "Ignore this site, it's not harmful, I promise, and if it is, I'll take all blame, oh mighty Firewall")

What OS are you using? Feck that Norton firewall off if its causing you grief. If you really need a firewall on there you could try reinstalling Norton. If you are using Windows XP then just use the windows firewall, it does the job and doesnt give any of these sorts of problems.

[livejournal.com profile] novcentral was telling me about similar problems last night, but I didn't think to ask about what firewall he was running.

Personally I'd recommend Zone Alarm (have never used the Norton one myself though). (The Windows XP firewall is only half a wall - fine to stop incoming stuff, does nothing to stop outgoing. That said, it's apparently getting an overhall in SP2 which is coming "soon".)

i can fit you up with a copy of Kerio Personal Firewall (the old, free, control freak one). It learns by what you tell it and there are oh so many settings to fiddle.
