The Glass Is... (t+6)
Oct. 6th, 2005 04:36 pm50%. Half full, or half empty? My glass looks half full of space, which can be filled with other things...
I have a job next week, or half a job at least. Until December, I have five days work each fortnight... It follows the geometric progression of dwindling contracts: 12 months, 6 months, 3 months, 3 months @ half-time. I'm not holding out for a 1.5 month contract after that - I think I've found the quantum unit of CSIRO contracts, and no smaller subdivisions are likely to crop up.
I assume that this is effective as of Monday, and that I'll get a physical contract to sign sometime soon. Newly available time next week will be spent doing layout on Insurgent #3, and then I'll start work on commission painting to clear through the excess of work on that front. My new contract ought to finish around Christmas, after which I want to head back to the Cradle Mountain/Lake St. Clair Overland Track. Beyond that, who knows what will happen next year?
To do:
Design:
- Copy editing for Insurgent #3
- Layout, upload to WAU
Painting:
- Cygnar: WM Prime figures for
bishi_wannabe
- Grey Knights for Ebay sale
- Predator, for Ebay sale
Study:
- Apply for courses in 2006

Date: 2005-10-07 01:12 am (UTC)Thinking along the lines of:
- Fly to Devonport
- Overland Track + side trips (8 days)
- Bus to Hobart
- Veg out @ the Pickled Frog (good hostel, cheap beer :) ) until our flights take us home.
You need to book for the Overland Track now, though (new introduction this summer, to make sure there aren't too many people on the trail), and summer is peak season for filling the hostels... we'll probably need to organise things in the next few weeks.

Date: 2005-10-07 03:34 pm (UTC)how many days total are you thinking? and what sort of dates? If i can get leave then I'm in!

Date: 2005-10-09 11:00 am (UTC)Something like a week and a half, all up - maybe 11-12 days, although you could easily head back a bit earlier if you want to cut down the veg-out part of the trip. It's well worth having a few drinks in Hobart though... the Pickled Frog hostel has really nice people working there, and a good atmosphere.
It looks like the best time for the Overland booking starts on Jan 11, at the moment. There's an online booking calender on the website, and it doesn't have as much space earlier or later than that.
btw - can you email me your phone number? I'll give you a call tomorrow night... :)

Date: 2005-10-06 11:00 pm (UTC)Whoohoo!
I actually kind of envy your unique combination of part time job + extreme economy skills + moneymaking hobby. I'd be begging in the streets within seconds of losing my full-time job :)
Hoping to try out Brisbane tonight.
